Hörverstehen

Train your ear for the three parts of the TELC B1 listening exam

Understand the format, including which parts are played only once, and how to effectively read questions ahead of time.

Exam format

Part 1 and Part 2 (played once)

Both parts are played only once — no repeat.

  • Part 1 — Five short announcements (e.g. train station, airport) with True/False statements.
  • Part 2 — A longer radio interview with True/False statements.

Part 3 (played twice)

Short situations or dialogues with True/False questions. You hear each clip twice, unlike Parts 1 and 2.

Practical tips

  • Use the reading time wisely

Before the audio starts, you get a short pause. Skim the statements to know exactly what keywords, numbers, or topics to listen for.

  • Focus on synonyms and paraphrasing

The exam will rarely use the exact same words in the audio as in the written question. Listen for the meaning, not just matching vocabulary.

Common mistakes

Expecting to hear Part 1 and 2 again

Many candidates panic when they realize Parts 1 and 2 are not repeated. You must make a decision immediately after the audio finishes.

Getting stuck on one missed answer

If you miss a piece of information, let it go. If you keep thinking about it, you will miss the answer to the next question as well.
